No-exam life insurance

Explanation of expedited underwriting: who qualifies, how the procedure works, and what's different if it doesn't apply to you.

Expedited underwriting has become widely available. For candidates meeting age and coverage size requirements, carriers issue approval using your form, prescription data, motor vehicle history and related sources rather than a medical exam. Some approvals take hours. Every quote specifies whether a physical is requested.

What it changes

Bypassing an exam doesn't mean information isn't checked. Your statements get verified; any policy sold with misleading data can be revoked in the first 24 months. Should the carrier spot issues in your background, you might still need tests—your choice at that juncture.

Who tends to qualify

Typical candidates are in their 50s or younger, requesting sums within the carrier's non-exam range, without major health issues and without tobacco consumption in the recent period. Recent medical bloodwork from a doctor visit can substitute for a new exam in some cases.

Medical exams are typically 20-30 minutes at your Los Altos location (residence or job site) with a paramedical specialist, with no out-of-pocket cost. An exam can actually boost your category if your health checks out favorably.
