Health classes explained

The four grades—Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard—what each designation means and the variables affecting your placement.

Companies set prices based on rate brackets. Terminology differs, but the sequence stays constant: Preferred Plus (also Super Preferred), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, then higher gradients for greater danger. Nicotine users occupy a higher-cost tier.

What underwriters look at

Evaluation factors: physique, blood pressure, cholesterol, hereditary disease before 60, moving violations, drugs taken, employment and activities, and smoking/nicotine exposure. Top tier requires excellent scores nearly everywhere; Preferred is less rigid; Standard Plus and Standard permit some managed illnesses like regulated blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

The health section requires truth: Excellent aligns with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus, Average with Standard. Quotes assume your declared tier; carriers finalize after all data. Undecided? Test both brackets, then trust the application. Understating your status doesn't reduce the rate; it just makes the estimate incorrect.

Susman Insurance Agency knows which carriers are flexible about particular medical situations, which often overshadows the quoted rate.
